How to cancel adult site subscriptions

By the Nightcap Reviews team · Updated

The first step is working out who bills you: the website itself, or the Apple App Store or Google Play. Cancelling in the wrong place does nothing, and neither does deleting the app.

Step 1: Find out who's billing you

  • Search your email for the receipt. It names the seller and usually links to cancellation.
  • Check your card statement for the billing descriptor (see our billing guide).
  • If the charge says Apple or Google, you subscribed through an app store, so cancel there.

Step 2a: Cancel on the website

  1. Log in on the website directly, not through a link in an email.
  2. Go to Account, Settings, Billing or Membership.
  3. Choose Cancel, End membership or Turn off auto-renew. Expect a "Are you sure?" screen or a discount offer, and keep going if you still want to cancel.
  4. Turn off any auto-refill for tokens or credits as well. It's often a separate setting.
  5. Save the confirmation screen and email.

Step 2b: Cancel through Apple or Google

  • Apple (iPhone, iPad, Mac): open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose the subscription and tap Cancel Subscription. Apple's official steps for every device: Cancel a subscription from Apple.
  • Google Play (Android): open subscriptions in Google Play, select the subscription and tap Cancel subscription. Google notes that uninstalling an app doesn't cancel its subscription. Official steps: Cancel, pause or change a subscription on Google Play.

Step 3: Delete your account and data (optional)

Cancelling stops future charges, but your profile and data usually stay. If you're done with the site, look for "Delete account" in settings or the privacy policy. If there isn't one, email support asking for your account and personal data to be deleted, and keep a copy.

If a site makes cancelling hard

  1. Cancel in writing. Email support with the message below, and keep the sent copy.
  2. Call your card company. If you're still charged after cancelling, that's a billing error you can dispute. In the US, the CFPB says to contact your card company right away and send a written notice within 60 days of the charge appearing on your statement.
  3. Ask your bank about blocking the merchant or replacing the card, as a last resort.

Site-specific guides

Keep it from happening again

  • Set a calendar reminder two days before any trial or renewal date.
  • Use a virtual card with a spending cap for subscriptions.
  • Turn off auto-renew right after subscribing if you only want one period. You normally keep access until the period ends.
